Düsseldorf, Germany – October 13, 2025 – Siemens Smart Infrastructure now uses a new series called SIRIUS 3RQ4. They made the relay housings with 70% bio-based plastic from Envalior. Innovative Bio-Based Material: Akulon® K225-KS B-MB

The relay shells use Akulon® K225-KS B-MB. This plastic is halogen free and flame-retardant. It comes from recycled used cooking oil taken from food waste. Used oil from restaurants and homes now fills a new role. The oil does not compete with food or animal feed. It also stops waste from burning. This method fits the idea of a circular economy.

Envalior uses a mass balance approach. They turn used oil into a high-grade plastic. The plastic still meets high standards for chemical resistance, heat tolerance, and safety in tough factories.

Versatile Relay Variants Meeting Industrial Needs

The SIRIUS 3RQ4 series offers three options for different work settings:

  • Integral Relay Output Variant: This unit is built for severe settings. It has safety marks like ATEX for risky atmospheres. Gold-plated contacts help lower current switching. The coated PCBs work well in railway areas.
  • Plug-in Coupling Relays: This option lets users change relays even while machines run. This makes repairs fast and simple. Gold-plated contacts are also an option.
  • Semiconductor Output Variant: This unit switches fast and quietly. It lasts almost forever. It can handle higher currents up to 6A and stops expensive replacements.
