Organic Farming: The Future of Agriculture in Kazakhstan and Beyond
The UNDP shows organic farming is vital. This method works with nature and cuts harmful chemicals. Vadim Lopukhin, head of Kazakhstan’s organic group, warns us. He points to toxic pesticides that hurt our earth and our health. His voice calls us to act now.
What is Organic Farming?
Organic farming is not just a method; it is a way of life that honors nature. It uses few synthetic fertilizers and limits harsh pesticides. Instead, it trusts natural processes to boost life. Every step links closely with the earth. This way of farming holds respect for all living things.
Kazakhstan’s Organic Agriculture Potential
Kazakhstan holds great organic lands. Over 200,000 hectares now follow European organic rules. In 2022, Kazakhstan exported organic products worth $35 million. Wheat, linseed, and soybeans travel mainly to the European Union. FiBL and IFOAM rank Kazakhstan as follows:
- 9th in organic exports overall,
- 4th in organic wheat exports,
- 6th in organic flaxseed oil exports.
Government and UNDP Initiatives
Kazakhstan builds strong rules for organic farming. The 2015 law sets clear economic, legal, and social standards. The law helps by paying part of the certification cost. Today, 38 farms show their organic badge. A roadmap for 2022–2023 speeds up progress. A new plan for 2024–2026 now takes shape. Changes include:
- A focus on the process of organic production,
- Group certification to help small farms,
- All rules merged into one clear document.
Importance of Certification
Certification builds trust for consumers. It shows that farms meet strict organic standards. UNDP helped launch pilot tests. These tests clear the way for better market access and honest talks between growers and buyers.
The Global Context
Kazakhstan ties into a global network. Programs like BesNET and IPBES work with 140 countries to save biodiversity and care for nature. Their work meets Kazakhstan’s goals and builds regional links.
Conclusion
Conventional farming may bring fast profit but risks our health and the earth. Organic farming ties food production with caring for nature. Kazakhstan’s strong laws and global ties show this hopeful path. The nation leads as the future of safe, green food production.
