Haleon's Commitment to Sustainability: Leading the Charge in Eco-Friendly Healthcare Packaging and Carbon Reduction

Haleon’s Commitment to Sustainable Packaging and Decarbonisation in Healthcare

Haleon is a global health company. It makes brands like Sensodyne, Centrum, and Panadol. It works hard to lower environmental harm and boost health for many people.

Sustainability Recognition and Strategy

Haleon earned a top spot. It ranked #34 in Sustainability Magazine’s Top 250 Sustainability Companies for 2025. Its leaders link this win to new ideas and cleaner ways to work. Chris Low, who leads Sustainability, Procurement & Packaging at Haleon, points to fresh sustainable products, a supply chain that cares about climate, and a strong duty to health and humanity.

Haleon builds its work on two clear supports:

  • Enhancing Inclusivity in Everyday Health
  • Minimizing Environmental Footprint

Ambitious Climate Goals

Haleon has set clear targets:

  • Net Zero by 2040: It aims to bring all carbon emissions to net zero by 2040. This goal joins global plans like The Climate Pledge and Race to Zero.
  • Emissions Reduction by 2030:
    • It drops net Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 100% from the 2020 level. Already, a 50% drop happened by 2024.
    • It cuts Scope 3 emissions by 42% from the 2022 level.

To add clean energy, Haleon joined a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement in 2024. This step helps build a big solar farm in Europe.

Decarbonising Supply Chain and Operations

Haleon works to lower carbon by doing these steps:

  • It powers heat with cleaner fuels and electric systems.
  • It shifts to renewable electricity with on-site systems or by signing contracts with clean suppliers.
  • It uses carbon offsets for heat emissions that still remain.
  • It teams up with suppliers to pick renewable energy.
  • It changes the design of products and packaging to use less carbon and add to sustainability.

Pioneering Recycle-Ready Packaging

Haleon sets clear goals for packaging:

  • It cuts down virgin, petroleum-based plastic by 10% by 2025 and by 33% by 2030 (using 2022 as a start).
  • It refines packaging to be compact and easy to recycle.
  • It swaps virgin plastics for recycled plastics or bio-resins.
  • It ensures that packaging is ready to recycle by 2025 and is fully recyclable or reusable by 2030. Recycle-ready packaging works well with today’s recycling systems. It removes tricky plastics, such as PVC. It shifts to packaging made from one material and uses substances that most recycling systems accept.

Haleon uses paper-based packaging for about half of its output. It is now switching to deforestation-free and sustainably sourced paper by 2030. ## Leadership Vision

Brian McNamara, CEO of Haleon, says:
“As a leading global player in consumer health, Haleon is well-positioned to recognise and understand the social and environmental barriers that hold people back from achieving better everyday health. We want to use our reach, expertise and products to empower and support people to take charge of their health and wellbeing while having a positive impact on the world.”

For healthcare brands and sustainability advocates, Haleon shows how a large company can spark big environmental change. It improves global health outcomes with smart, green packaging and careful supply chain decarbonisation.
